Hi there,

Though you may not qualify you might want to look into daycare assistance.  I understand the schedule difficulties. However, if you do qualify (It varies by state) you may be able to get your boy into some relatively affordable daycare.

You can also sue the mother for Child Support. It's a pain, but the county should already be doing that for you actually. If not..do it, and you will get at least medical for your boy..and perhaps yourself that way. Cut where you can, and add the change to where-ever you need it most.

Check out if you are eligible for any financial help from anyone within the Social Services networks. Even call his school..sometimes they have a human resources person that is really good at their job..and can give you ideas on where you might get some financial help, childcare help etc.  There are things like Boys and Girls Club that your son is just old enough for, and once school starts many organizations like that have after school programs. Check to see if after he gets into school if you can get some help with daycare that way. Hope some of the suggestions are useful. It's a tough row to hoe I know, but if you are persistent they get tired of hearing from you after while and will eventually hear you out. If you've applied for these things, apply again...if you get denied, try to appeal if you think you have cause to do so. There are food banks galore in some places.  You can look up the Salvation Army..and they often have a food bank. Look for churches that have "clothing shelves" or similar. There you might be able to get some clothes for your son and yourself if needed. The Salvation Army often gives out "School Supply Packs"...also check with churches and his school on that as it will save you some money when school starts.
